I am excited about a recent request to create several “sacred spaces” for a conference and retreat center in the Washington, DC area. As an art teacher and minister, the opportunity to use the visual arts as a powerful tool to change an environment is exciting. I will be creating 5 settings with a “message” depicted visually. Folks will not only be able to look at the visual, but hopefully, they will be drawn into it – using it for prayer and meditation, inspired preaching and teaching, and inviting interaction and participation by those gathered together. I am also excited about how this artistic expression will stimulate creative ideas from those who gather in these “sacred spaces”. Bringing out our God-given creativity is a powerful way to better our world! Let’s celebrate it wherever we can.
